Institute Presentation
The NILVAD team in Gothenburg is part of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry at the University of Gothenburg and is closely integrated with the Memory Clinic at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and located in the same building.
When it comes to dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, the Memory Clinic is the specialist department for a catchment area with 700 000 inhabitants. We receive approximately 800 referrals per year from primary care units. Our physicians are specialised in psychiatry, neurology or geriatrics and works in teams with nurses, neuropsychologist, social workers and occupational therapists.
We have long time experience from extensive evaluations and treatment of patients with cognitive decline and dementia. Our scientific personnel have more than 20 years experience from clinical research in the field, with focus on vascular factors and CSF biomarkers in relation to cognition and dementia. We closely collaborate with the Neurochemistry laboratory lead by Professor Kaj Blennow and many of our projects are in collaboration with researchers worldwide.
In addition we have experience from phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trials in the Alzheimer field in collaboration with various pharmaceutical companies. The investigators in the Gothenburg NILVAD team have been principal investigator or sub-investigator for a large number of Alzheimer trials.
